Abinash Chandra Bhattacharya (Aged 81), also known as Abhida among his revolutionary colleagues, was born in 1882 in the village of Arbelia, West Bengal, India. His father’s name was Umesh Chandra Bhattacharya. The poet possibly included the popular folk song “Abhiramer Dwip Chalanma, Khudiramer fansi” because of his association with the revolutionaries.
He was deported to the Andamans in the early 1900s and was repatriated to Rawalpindi jail in 1914. He was released in 1915 and joined the Kolkata Municipal Gazette. He authored many books in Bengali, including Rananiti and Mukte Konpathe.
