Baba Harnam Singh was the son of Gurdit Singh from Kotla Nand Singh, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab. During his visit to Canada and the USA, he joined the Gaddar movement, which was gaining momentum. He was charged with sedition in the Lahore Conspiracy case and was initially given the death penalty. However, his sentence was later commuted to transportation for life on appeal. He was then deported to the Cellular Jail in Andamans.
