Bhim Sen Sachar (Aged 84) was an Indian politician born on December 1, 1894. He served as the Chief Minister of Punjab thrice. Sachar obtained a BA and LLB from Lahore and practiced law in Gujranwala (now in Pakistan). He was drawn towards the freedom movement and joined the Indian National Congress party at a young age. In 1921, he was elected as the Secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
By the time India gained independence in 1947, he had become an important member of the party. Around the same time, Sachar accepted citizenship of Pakistan and became a member of the First Pakistan Constituent Assembly. Later, he relinquished his Pakistani citizenship and returned to India. He passed away on January 18, 1978.
