Bir Tikendrajit (Aged 33) born in 1858, was the hero of the Manipur revolution of 1891. He was the son of Maharaja Chandrakirti Singh. The rise of a powerful prince in the easternmost state of India was considered a threat to British supremacy, and the British decided to arrest him to quell the anti-British force.
Bir Tikendrajit was determined to expel the British from Manipur and regain its independence. To save their motherland, the Manipuris fought bravely under the leadership of Bir Tikendrajit. On April 27, 1891, the British occupied Manipur, and Tikendrajit was arrested. He was hanged at Pheida Pung, Imphal district in Manipur, India (now B.T. Park) on August 13, 1891.
