Brahma Nand was born on August 20, 1922, in the village of Raipur, Tehsil Bhattiyat in District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, India. He joined the Indian Army and was detained by the Japanese during World War II. Later, he joined the Indian National Army led by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and fought against the British.
While imprisoned in Japan in 1941, he wrote a letter to his relative in India expressing his yearning for Independence and his anguish at being away from his homeland. He also penned a beautiful poem, which is currently in possession of his relatives.
