Chandan Hajuri (Aged 43) better known as Chakhi Khuntia, was born in 1827 to a family of temple servants in Harchandi Sahi, Puri. During the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, Chakhi Khuntia was among the courageous leaders who dedicated their lives to the cause of the common people. He wholeheartedly supported Rani Lakshmibai in the fight for freedom.
Chakhi Khuntia passed away in 1870 in Puri. He is remembered as an immortal poet, a national hero, a great patriot, and a renowned devotee of Lord Jagannath.
