Doddamane Mahadevi Hegde

(1906 – 2006) – (Karnataka)

Doddamane Mahadevi Hegde also known as Mahadevi Tai, was born in 1906 in Karnataka, India. Her family was well-known for their sacrifices during the Indian Freedom Movement in Bombay Karnataka. In 1930, she plunged into the Freedom Movement and joined Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram at Wardah. Mahadevi Tai was a close associate of Acharya Vinobha Bhave and Jamnalal Bajaj. She went to jail three times during the freedom struggle for her activism. She passed away in 2006.
