Sir Girjaprasad Chinubhai Baronet (Aged 84) born on 19 April 1906 to Sir Chinubhai Madhowlal Ranchhodlal, 1st Baronet and Devlaxmi Sarabhai. He was an Indian businessman, independence activist, and social reformer from Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. He received his education at Gujarat College and the University of Bombay. In 1924, he married Tanumati, the daughter of Jahaverilal Mehta, and had children. Upon his father’s death in 1916, he took over his legacy and textile business.

In the mid-1920s, he became involved with Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, and other leading Indian independence activists and was an active participant in the Gujarat front. He was also a member of the Bombay Legislative Assembly from 1937-39.

Later on, under the influence of Mahatma Gandhi and other social leaders such as Jamnalal Bajaj, he and his mother opened the doors of their family’s personal temple (known as Sir Chinubhai’s Temple) to Dalits and all communities, despite their family’s staunch Nagar Brahmin beliefs. Mahatma Gandhi presided over the opening ceremony on August 2, 1931, which was attended by at least 300 people.

Throughout his lifetime, he continued his father’s philanthropic work and served as the main patron of Gujarat College, Victoria Jubilee Hospital, and other institutions. He passed away by 1990.
