Jayaprakash Narayan (Aged 77), also known as JP or Lok Nayak (Hindi for “People’s leader”), was an Indian independence activist, theorist, socialist, and political leader. He was born on 11th October 1902, Bihar, India. He became popular during the Quit India movement. In 1932, he was jailed for civil disobedience against British rule and imprisoned in Nasik Jail, where he met Ram Manohar Lohia, Minoo Masani, Achyut Patwardhan, Ashok Mehta, Basawon Singh (Sinha), Yusuf Desai, C K Narayanaswami, and other national leaders.
During the Quit India Movement, which was launched by Mahatma Gandhi in August 1942, Yogendra Shukla scaled the wall of Hazaribagh Central Jail along with Jayaprakash Narayan. Jayaprakash Narayan passed away on 8th October 1979.
