Madapati Hanumantha Rao (Aged 86) was born on January 22, 1885, in Pokkunuru, a village in Andhra Pradesh, India. In 1924, he and other individuals established the Andhra Jana Sangham with the aim of setting up libraries and reading rooms and promoting education among students and scholars.
They gathered and distributed Telugu manuscripts to encourage Telugu literature. They published small booklets and organized meetings in villages to establish libraries. Some of these booklets addressed the issues faced by small traders, peasants, laborers, and impoverished people.
They also established over 4,000 schools, many of which were forced to shut down due to government opposition. Nonetheless, the movement gained momentum as more and more people – including women, students, singers, and others – joined it. Madapati Hanumantha Rao passed away on November 11, 1970, in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
