Shri Nand Gopal Chopra, the editor of the weekly newspaper ‘Inquilab’ in Lahore, was the son of Bulaki Ram. Chopra had already received a sentence of 5 years of rigorous imprisonment in Lahore for writing seditious articles. While he was out on bail, he started publishing ‘Swarajya’. He managed to edit nearly a dozen issues of the publication before he was arrested and sentenced to transportation on three different counts, to an aggregate term of 30 years. He was subsequently deported to the Andamans.
