P. Venkataraman

Venkataraman (Aged 81), also known as P. Venkataraman Iyer, was born in 1886 in Ammapettai, located in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, India. His father’s name was Panchapakesa Iyer. He actively joined the freedom movement in 1905, dedicating himself to various significant campaigns. His participation included the Prohibition movement in 1921, the Salt Satyagraha in 1930, the Khadi movement, and the Quit India movement in 1942. His unwavering commitment to these causes led to multiple arrests and imprisonments, with nearly three years of rigorous confinement in Trichy.

Furthermore, Venkataraman served as the secretary of both the ward and district Thanjavur Congress Committee, contributing to the organization’s efforts. His dedication and leadership qualities were recognized when he was elected to the legislative council. In 1936, he represented the Papanasam constituency, and in 1946, he was chosen to represent the Kumbakonam constituency. His tireless efforts in the pursuit of Indian independence and social reform continued until his passing in 1967.
