Pushpa Kumar Ghising (Aged 82) born on 1921, participated in the 1946 Naval Uprising, during which he entered the naval ammunition dump alone, brought down at least three British soldiers stationed there, and took control of the weapons. The Indian sailors used these weapons to hold back the British for five days until the Indian National Congress intervened and persuaded them to lay down their arms. Ghising and his companions were arrested and taken to Mulundi Jail, where he was court-martialed but acquitted during the trial.
After resigning from the Navy on September 8, 1946, Ghising plunged into the independence movement. In recognition of his role in the movement, the government awarded him the Tamra Patra on August 15, 1989. Ghising remained a follower of Subhas Chandra Bose until his last days and believed that the country would have taken a different shape had Netaji played an active role in the politics of independent India. Pushpa Kumar Ghisingh died at his Sitlu bustee residence in 2003.
