Smt. Sahodra Bai Rai (Aged 62) born on 30 April 1919, hailed from the Kshatriya Khangar dynasty of Botrai village, in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. She actively participated in the Indian independence movement in 1942 and was imprisoned for her involvement. In 1955, she showed great courage by leading the Goa liberation movement against the Portuguese, holding the Indian flag.
Smt. Rai was elected as a Member of Parliament multiple times and dedicated herself to the welfare of Harijans, adult education, promoting Hindi language, women’s organizations, and helping poor farmers. In commemoration of her contributions to the nation on the occasion of the 75th year of India’s Independence, this special cover is released. She passed away in 1981.
