Salanga Rama Singh, a resident of Sambalpur, Orissa (Odisha) belonging to the Barika community, participated in the Uprising of 1857 and fought against the British alongside Madho Singh, a rebel Zamindar of Guess, Sambalpur. During an encounter with the English East India Company troops, he was captured and imprisoned on the charge of rebellion against the British. Subsequently, in 1865, he was hanged to death in Sambalpur Jail.
