Singhara Singh

Singhara Singh (Andaman and Nicobar Islands)

 

Singhara Singh, a resident of Phoenix Bay in the Andaman Islands, was employed as a motor driver in the Supply Department by the British Authority. In 1942, he joined the Indian Independence League and worked actively to ensure its financial viability.

 

During the Japanese occupation of the Islands from 1942-1945, Singhara Singh was arrested and accused of being a British spy. He was confined in the Cellular Jail, where he endured prolonged torture and confinement, ultimately leading to his death on 25 January 1944.
