Taradas Mukherji

(1904 – 1933) – (West Bengal)

Taradas Mukherji (Aged 29) a resident of village Malopara in the Nadia district of Bengal (now in West Bengal), was born in 1904 to Haripada Mukherji. He was a member of a revolutionary group in Nadia. On 24 May 1930, he was convicted and sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment under Sections 124A and 120B of the Indian Penal Code in connection with an unlawful procession at Krishnanagar, Nadia, on 11 August 1929. While in jail, he was subjected to brutal physical and mental torture, which resulted in him turning insane. Tragically, he committed suicide on 5 July 1933 at Baripada.
