U Mon Bhut

(Meghalaya)

U Mon Bhut served as the lieutenant under U Tirot Sing Syiem (Chief) and was known as the right-hand man of his Chief in their fight against the British.

During the Anglo-Khasi War, the Khasi fighters lacked firearms and had only swords, shields, bows, and arrows. They were untrained in British warfare and soon realized that it was impossible to engage in open battle against an enemy who could kill from a distance. Therefore, they resorted to guerrilla activity, which lasted for about four years.

U Mon Bhut was a patriot and a distinguished warrior known for his several acts of warfare and rapid movements.
