Valipatan Moideen Kutty (Aged 30) hailed from Karuvarakundu amsom in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. He was arrested in connection with the Malabar rebellion of 1921 which was an uprising against the British colonial authorities and the exploitative Jenmis, coinciding with the Khilafat and Non-Cooperation movement. Kutty was taken into custody on 8 June 1922 as an under-trial prisoner and was imprisoned in the Manjeri Sub-Jail. Due to the inhumane treatment meted out to him by the police and the unhygienic conditions of the jail, including overcrowding, a lack of clean water and food, he contracted pneumonia. Despite his condition, he did not receive proper medical attention and he died on 18 June 1922 in the jail.
