Vemula Virayya

Vemula Virayya was a farmer and resident of Nadimpalem village in Golugonda taluka, Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh. He was the son of Somayya and belonged to the Bogata community. He actively participated in the Rampa Rebellion (1922-24), led by Alluri Sitarama Raju, against the high-handed activities of the British Government in the Agency area.

Along with his leader, he fought against the British authorities and participated in many encounters with the police. He was convicted under Section 121 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to life imprisonment on May 13, 1925. He was first imprisoned in the Rajahmundry Central Jail until October 1926 and then transferred to Bellary Central Jail.

Vemula Virayya passed away on December 27, 1926, while serving his sentence in the Bellary Central Jail.
