Voola Thammayya was born in the village of Pedda Ramannapalem, in the district of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name was Vallasayya. Thammayya joined Alluri Sitarama Raju in the Rampa Rebellion (1922-24) against the oppressive practices of the British Government in the Agency area.
During a fight with the British Police on December 6, 1922, in Peddageddapalem, Thammayya was severely wounded. He was admitted to a hospital in Narsipatnam but died soon after his admission.
