Yashwant Palekar (Aged 45) born in 1897 at Umari village, tehsil Arni, in the Yavatmal district of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra, was the son of Ludabaji Palekar, a primary school teacher. During the Quit India movement that began on 8 August 1942, Yashwant joined public demonstrations in his hometown, demanding that the British leave India immediately.
As a result of his anti-British activities, he was arrested and sentenced to two months of rigorous imprisonment. However, he died while under detention at Yavatmal jail on 26 September 1942 due to severe police torture.
