A. Kannusamy (Aged 61), also known as A. Kannusamy Pillai, was born in 1920 to Ayyasamy and Kuttiyammal in the Salem District of Tamil Nadu, India. He held a deep interest in the political ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi, Rajaji, Pandit Nehru, and Kamaraj. In 1936, he established the Jawaharlal Nehru National Youth Sangam in Salem. On the 4th of December, 1940, he actively participated in the Salt Satyagraha near the Omalur Mariyamman Temple in Salem.
In recognition of his sacrifices, the Government of India, in 1972, awarded him a Tamra Patra to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Indian Independence. He was acknowledged as a freedom fighter and received the Central Martyrs’ Pension and a State Government Pension. He passed away on the 30th of June, 1981.
