Alekh Patra (Aged 76) who was born on 1 July 1923 in Bishulipada, Nayahaat, Puri, Odisha, India, played a significant role in the Indian Independence Struggle as a prominent leader of Indian nationalism under British rule. He advocated for civil rights and environmental protection across various regions of Odisha using non-violent civil disobedience.
He became involved in the freedom movement at the age of 18 and, along with his companions, set fire to the police station in Nimapada to protest the British Raj. During the incident, there was police firing and one of his close associates and friends died on the spot. He survived and was arrested and imprisoned in Puri Jail. Despite being incarcerated, he continued his underground struggle against colonialism.
Upon his return from Kolkata, he was apprehended at the Puri Railway Station and again incarcerated. After his release from jail, he went to Wardha to receive training on Swaraj, home rule, and other Sarvodaya works. He passed away on 17 November 1999 in Sambalpur, Odisha, India.
