Alekh Singh was a member of the 40th Regiment of the Native Infantry in the English East India Company’s army. He played an active role in the First War of Independence of 1857. During a battle against the Company’s troops who had come to reclaim Arrah town from the rebels, he was arrested. He was accused of mutiny and rebellion, and the Sessions Judge sentenced him to be hanged under Act-XIV of 1857.
