B. V. Subba Reddy

(1903 – 1974) – (Andhra Pradesh)

B.V. Subba Reddy B.L., (Aged 71) also known as Bollavarapu Venkata Subba Reddy was born on 4 July 1903, Koilkuntla, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India. He was an Indian independence activist, politician, and former Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Subba Reddy actively participated in the Individual Satyagraha in 1941, which resulted in his imprisonment for six months. He also participated in the Quit India movement of 1942, leading to his arrest and three-year imprisonment in Tanjore.

In 1938, he was elected as the Chairman of Kurnool district Board as a Congress candidate and was re-elected to the post in 1949. After the death of the first Speaker, Ayyadevara Kaleswara Rao, in 1962, he was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

He was re-elected to the post in 1967 and served as Speaker for ten years with respect and dignity. In honor of his contributions, a bronze statue was erected in the B. V. Subba Reddy Memorial Park in Koilkuntla, Kurnool district, in 2010. He passed away by 7 June 1974, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
