Basawon Singh (Aged 80) also known as Basawan Singh or Basawon Sinha, was born on 23 March 1909 in Hajipur, Bihar, India. He was an Indian independence activist and a campaigner for the rights of underprivileged industrial laborers and agricultural workers.
As a consequence of his support for independence and his commitment to democratic socialism, he spent a total of 18 and a half years in British Indian prisons. Along with Yogendra Shukla, he was a founding member of the Congress Socialist Party in Bihar. Basawon Singh played a highly remarkable and inspiring role in the historic Quit India Movement.
He undertook a hunger strike for 30 days in Dalmianagar for the cause of workers. He passed away on 7 April 1989 in Bihar.
