BHOLA PASWAN SHASTRI

Bhola Paswan Shastri (Aged 69) was born on 21 September 1914 in Bairgacchi village of Purnia district, Bihar and Orissa Province, British India. He was an Indian freedom fighter and served as the Chief Minister of Bihar state on three occasions between 1968-71. His father used to work in the home of the royal family of Darbhanga.

Although members of his caste were discouraged from studying, Bhola Paswan took an interest in education and studied up to Kashi Vishwavidyalaya. The Bhola Paswan Shastri Agriculture College is named after him. He was a highly educated member of the downtrodden caste, and the Shastri title was due to his extensive knowledge. Bhola Paswan was the first Scheduled Caste (SC) Chief Minister of Bihar. He passed away on 10 September 1984 in New Delhi, India.
