Bhupendra Nath Dutta (Aged 81) a revolutionary, sociologist, and anthropologist, was born on September 4th, 1880 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He had a close association with the Jugantar movement during the freedom struggle and served as the editor of Jugantar Patrika, the Revolutionary Party of Bengal’s mouthpiece. He was arrested and imprisoned in 1907 for his revolutionary activities. Later, he joined the Bengal Revolutionary Society and had a close association with Sri Aurobindo and Barindra Ghosh.
As a member of the Ghadar Party of California, he participated in the freedom struggle outside India. He became the secretary of the Indian Independence Committee, a committee formed for this purpose. Interestingly, Bhupendra Nath Dutta was the younger brother of Swami Vivekananda. He passed away on December 25th, 1961 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
