Uttar Pradesh

Chaudhary Pritam Singh (Aged 93), a native of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was not only a freedom fighter and
independence activist but also a dedicated individual who contributed significantly to societal and
educational development. His early education took place in Meerut, and he pursued higher studies at
Delhi’s Ramjus College before joining the Indian National Congress. Engaging in various freedom struggles
led by Mahatma Gandhi, he faced imprisonment, notably during the Salt March when he was arrested at
Hindon River Bridge and spent months in Faizabad Jail.
Following his active involvement in the independence movement, Chaudhary Pritam Singh later served as
a special assistant to former Prime Minister Charan Singh. In 1939, he was elected to the District Council, a
position he held continuously for 12 years. Not only did he contribute to governance, but he also displayed
his commitment to education by donating land in his native village for the construction of a Girls Junior
High School.
Chaudhary Pritam Singh’s lifelong dedication to societal welfare and educational progress came to an end
on November 2023, when he passed away in his own village of Kanpur.
