Chodagam Ammanna Raja (Aged 89) also known as Chodagam Ammanna Raja BA was born on 6 June 1909, Bandar, Andhra Pradesh, India. She was an Indian freedom movement activist and a Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh. She completed her education in Rajahmundry and obtained her graduation (B.A.) and L.T. from Madras in 1932. In 1937, she was elected as a member of the Indian National Congress to the Madras Legislative Assembly from the Eluru constituency with the support of Sarojini Naidu and Durgabai Deshmukh.
Chodagam Ammanna Raja actively participated in the Satyagraha movement in 1940, alongside Mahatma Gandhi. She was re-elected as a member of the Madras Legislative Assembly from the Eluru constituency in 1946 and was appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Madras Legislative Assembly from 1946 to 1952.
She fought alongside Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy for the passing of the Bill abolishing the Devadasi system in 1947. Chodagam Ammanna Raja also educated several children who would have otherwise been forced to work at a young age. Thanks to their education, these children now have excellent career prospects, with one of them serving as an officer in the Indian Army today. He passed away by 22 February 1999, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
