Dineshchandra Majumdar

(1907 -1934) – (West Bengal)

Majumdar Dinesh (Aged 29) was born in 1907 in Basirhat, District 24-Parganas, West Bengal, India. His father’s name was Puma Chandra Majumdar. While studying, he became a member of the revolutionary Jugantar Party. On August 25, 1930, he participated in an attempt to kill Police Commissioner Tegart by throwing a bomb at his car near Dalhousie Square in Calcutta. As a result, he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Dinesh Majumdar escaped from Midnapur Jail and went into hiding in a house at Chandernagore. The French police discovered and surrounded him on March 10, 1933, but he managed to escape after an armed encounter. He was also suspected of involvement in the Grindlays Bank fraud case. After a prolonged armed encounter with the police on Cornwallis Street, Calcutta, he was arrested on May 22, 1933. He was later sentenced to death and hanged in 1936.
