Gopinath Bordoloi (Aged 60) was born on June 6, 1890. He was an Indian independence activist who served as the first Chief Minister of Assam. He followed the Gandhian principle of non-violence as a political tool. Due to his unselfish dedication to Assam and its people, the Governor of Assam, Jayram Das Doulatram, conferred upon him the title of “Lokapriya” (loved by all).
In 1922, he was arrested for his active participation in the Non-cooperation movement and was jailed for a year. He passed away on August 5, 1950.
