Guntur Bapanaiah

(1919 – 1978) – (Andhra Pradesh)

Guntur Bapanaiah (Aged 59) was born on 1919, He was a veteran freedom fighter, Dalit leader, and an active member of the undivided Communist Party of India since the 1930s.

Bapanaiah played a key role in the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) after the split in the Communist Party of India in 1964. He was responsible for the agricultural laborer associations for a significant period.

During the peasant struggles in Challapalli Estate in 1938 and 1950, Bapanaiah was one of the organizers. He was elected as an M.L.A. to the Madras Legislative Assembly from the Divi constituency in 1951. Later, he was elected as an M.L.A. from Nidumolu assembly constituency for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in 1962 and 1978. He passed by 1978.
