Gurmukh Singh Lalton

(1888 – 1977) – (Punjab)

Gurmukh Singh Lalton (Aged 89) was born in 1888 in Lalton, Ludhiana district, Punjab, India. His father’s name was Haspak Singh. He returned to India aboard the ship “Kamagatamaru” and was arrested at Budge Budge in 1914. He was then sentenced to transportation for life and deported to the Andamans. After being repatriated, he escaped from a running train in 1922, went to Russia via Afghanistan, returned to India, and was arrested again and deported to the Andamans.

In July 1937, Gurmukh Singh Lalton participated in the second hunger strike at the Cellular Jail. He was repatriated in November 1937 and finally released in 1945. He died on 13 March 1977.
