Hare Krishna Singh (Aged 32) Born in 1827 in the Shahabad district of Bihar, India. At the age of 30, served as the commander-in-chief of Kunwar Singh’s forces during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. He also served under his brother Babu Amar Singh, and was known for his distinctive upwardly-brushed whiskers, styled like an up-country sowar.
Singh played a crucial role in persuading Kunwar Singh to take up arms against the British, and was entrusted with the command of his forces. He actively participated in several battles against the British forces during the rebellion.
Some consider Singh to have been the “prime mover” of the rebellion in Bihar as he played a significant role in convincing the mutinous sepoys stationed at Danapur to join the rebels in Jagdispur. He led the forces towards Lucknow and achieved a major victory in a battle against Major Douglas in Lohara, located 10 miles west of Azamgarh.
Singh was appointed the head of the government under the authority of Amar Singh, and was known for running an efficient military system with different ranks being awarded to soldiers. However, he was eventually captured in 1859, and sentenced to death by hanging in Patna.
