Harnam Singh Tundilat (Aged 80) was born in 1882 in Kotla Naudhsingh, Hosiarpur District, Punjab, India. He was a revolutionary poet, writer, and a member of the Ghadar Party. After joining the Indian Army, he immigrated to the USA in 1909.
During World War I, Tundilat and other Ghadar Party members infiltrated British India, but the plan was foiled due to betrayal by a known person. Tundilat managed to escape to the North West Frontier Province, returned, and was arrested. He was tried in a case called the “First Lahore Conspiracy Case” and sentenced to death with forfeiture of property.
The Ghadar leaders refused to appeal the verdict, but the Viceroy commuted the death penalty to life imprisonment. Tundilat served close to 20 years in jail and passed away in 1962.
