Jageshwar Prasad Khalish

Jageshwar Prasad Khalish (Aged 86), an Indian Shayar and politician, was born on November 8, 1894 in Gaya, Bihar, India. He belonged to a poor family and was unable to pursue higher studies due to financial constraints. He received basic schooling from Madarsa, and was a self-taught man in Hindi, Urdu, English and Arthashastra. Students have even completed their Doctor of Philosophy on Jageshwar Prasad Khalish in Urdu and Modern History courses.

In 1916, he joined the Indian National Congress, and from 1931 to 1934, he presided over the Gaya Congress Committee. Khalish actively participated in the Quit India Movement. After India’s independence, he was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1952.

Khalish Park in Gaya was established in his name, replacing Davis Park which was its former name during the British era. He passed away on April 27, 1980 in Gaya, Bihar.
