Jayaraman

(1921 – 2007) – (Tamilnadu)

Jayaraman Mudaliar (Aged 86) was born in 1921 in Uzur, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.  Jayaraman learned songs about Gandhi from two men who sang them together and taught them to him. He later sang these songs at the English school he was attending, called the Mount School. However, a few months later, Jayaraman Mudaliar was reported missing and was said to have joined Hitler’s German army.

At the time, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was seeking Hitler’s assistance in India’s liberation movement. Hitler had agreed to send about 30,000 soldiers to India to help with the cause and requested that India send Indian soldiers to join his army in exchange. For his involvement in the massacre of Jayaraman Mudaliar during his service in the Italian army, the Italian government honored him with the title “THE ITALY STAR.”

Abdul Kalam posthumously honored Netaji for his service in the Indian Army, recognizing him as a “Freedom Fighter for the Country” and a martyr of the liberation struggle. He was also honored by the State Government with the Lotus Degree Award. Netaji passed away on December 8, 2007.
