Jnananjan Niyogi

Jnananjan Niyogi (Aged 65) was born on 7th January 1891 in Gaya, Bihar, India. He actively participated in the Indian independence movement and was also a social reformer. He was drawn towards the movement against the partition of Bengal in 1905.

In 1916, he formed a youth organization called the “Band of Hope” and extensively toured the rural areas of Bengal. He used the magic lantern to spread awareness among the poor and uneducated sections of the population.

Jnananjan Niyogi wrote prolifically and published highly provocative booklets that inspired people against British rule. Some of his popular booklets include “Desher Dak”, “Biplabi Bangla”, “Bharate Tular Chas”, “Bharate Kaporer Itihas”, and “Bilati Bastra Barjon Koribo Keno”. However, the government banned some of his works, and he was often jailed for rebelling against the king. He passed away on 13th February 1956 in Kolkata, India.
