Ladha Ram Kapur, hailing from Varaichanalain in the district of Gujarat (now in Pakistan), became the editor of Swarajya. For three articles published in the newspaper, he was prosecuted.
In the first article titled Wafadaari (Loyalty), Ladha Ram had criticized an Englishman who had raped an Indian woman and had even expressed fear that the English offender would not be convicted by the British courts. In the second article, Political Ode, the author called upon the Indian youth to cast out the national calamity (i.e., British rule). In the third article, Spring and Us, the author compared India to a beautiful garden in which the cruel gardener, i.e., the British government, was practicing all kinds of tyranny.
The Judge of the Trial Court, in his judgment, remarked that the court found Ladha Ram guilty on all three counts of three offenses punishable under section 124A of the IPC and sentenced him to transportation for ten years for each one of the three offenses, a total of 30 years. He was then deported to the Andamans.
After his release, Ladha Ram Kapur settled in Delhi along with his wife. He passed away on January 5, 1966, in a colony of New Delhi.
