Lala Hanuwant Sahai

Lala Hanuwant Sahai was a businessman hailing from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and a childhood friend of Lala Hardayal. In 1907, he became an active member of the Bharat Mata Society, which was established by Sufi Amba Prasad.

In 1912, Lala Hanuwant Sahai, along with Master Amirchand, Master Awadh Bihari, Bhai Balmukund, and Basant Kumar Biswas, was arrested and convicted in the Viceroy Hardinge bomb case. While the other four convicts were executed, Hanuwant Sahai was sentenced to life imprisonment in Andamans. Later, his jail term was reduced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment after he appealed the sentence. He passed away by March 31, 1964.
