M.C. Veerabahu (Aged 73), also known as M.C. Veerabahu Pillai, was born on 19 May 1903 to M. Chidambaram Pillai and Goi Ammal in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin) District of Tamil Nadu, India. Initially working as an advocate, he later abandoned his legal profession to dedicate himself to the cause of India’s independence. In 1934, he served as the district Congress president and utilized the Arunodhyam Press for printing pamphlets and handbills to promote the independence movement. Veerabahu was a member of the Constituent Assembly and notably signed the original Indian Constitution in his mother tongue, Tamil.
His commitment to the freedom struggle led to imprisonment during Mahatma Gandhiji’s visit to Srivaikundam and Thoothukudi in January 1934 when the Mahatma stayed in Veerabahu’s residence. M.C. Veerabahu passed away on 15 April 1976.
