Mallu Santa (Aged 60), one of the leading tribals who joined the National Movement as a member of the Indian National Congress, was born in 1922. Despite being under matriculate, he took a keen interest in social service and organized people in remote tribal areas to revolt against the British Rulers. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1939 and was imprisoned for 6 months in 1940 and again for 2 years in 1942 for taking an active part in the freedom movement.
Later, he became a member of the District Congress Committee and contested as a Congress candidate from Pottangi Assembly Constituency in the General Election held in 1957, where he was elected to the State Legislative Assembly. In 1967, he was elected from Nandapur Constituency as a candidate for the Indian National Congress Party. This tribal leader passed away on 12 September 1982.
