Manorama Banerjee

(Tripura)

Manorama Banerjee, the wife of a prominent freedom fighter, Pramod Ranjan Banerjee of Tripura, India, had an ideological inclination towards a violent struggle against the British since childhood. She saved money to buy a pistol, which she kept hidden in her dress, and gave it to her friend Anwara Begum to open fire on a British Magistrate. Another friend accompanied them, but they were arrested on charges of murder and jailed in Comilla Women’s Cell for six months.
