Prema Purao, born on 15th August 1935 in Goa, India, was an Indian social worker and freedom fighter. She founded Annapurna Mahila Mandal, a non-governmental organization that works towards the empowerment of destitute women and children.
She actively participated in the Goa liberation movement and established Annapurna Mahila Mandal in 1975. Her outstanding contribution to society was recognized by the AIWEFA Stree Ratna Award, and the Government of India honored her with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest Indian civilian award in 2002.
