Premdatta Varma (Aged 100), who was born on 19 September 1911 in Hissar, Haryana, was one of the youngest comrades of Bhagat Singh, along with Pandit Kishori Lal. He was sentenced to five years in jail in the Lahore conspiracy case. During the trial, he gained notoriety for throwing a chappal at approver Jaigopal after he taunted the revolutionaries.
After his release, he pursued academics and taught at the History department of Panjab University, Chandigarh before eventually moving to the USA. There, he completed his Ph.D. degree, published books, and passed away just a few days before his 100th birthday on 6 January 2011.
