Puli Thevar (Aged 52) who was born on September 1, 1715 in Nerkattumseval, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India, was a Tamil Polygar who ruled over Nerkattumseval. He is remembered for leading a revolt against the British East India Company’s rule in 1757, becoming the first Indian to do so. The generals of Thevar’s army were Ondiveeran and Venni Kaladi. The Polygar revolt against the British is also attributed to him. Puli Thevar maintained friendly relations with the Kingdom of Travancore until they were disrupted by Yusuf Khan. He passed away in 1767 in Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India.
