Rafi Ahmed Kidwai

(1894 – 1954) – (Uttar Pradesh)

Rafi Ahmed Kidwai (Aged 60) was an Indian independence activist, politician, and socialist who was sometimes referred to as an Islamic socialist. He was born on February 18, 1894, in Masauli, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, India. He hailed from the Barabanki District of United Provinces, now Uttar Pradesh, in North India.

According to historian Paul Brass, Kidwai was a formidable fundraiser for Congress movements and elections. He distributed his largesse to all and sundry, but died in debt, leaving behind only a decaying house in his home village.

Kidwai passed away in Delhi on October 24, 1954, due to heart failure after experiencing an asthma attack while delivering a speech. He was buried in his home village, and his burial site was covered by a Mughal-style mausoleum.
