Sachidanand Hirannand Vatsyayan Ageyea (Aged 76) was born on 7 March 1911 in Kasia, Deoria (now Kushinagar), Uttar Pradesh, India, where his father, Hiranand Sastri, a famous archaeologist, was posted for an excavation. After completing his Bachelor of Science from the Forman Christian College in Lahore in 1929, he enrolled for an M.A. in English. However, he soon dropped out and joined Bhagat Singh in rebellious activities against the British as a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association/ Army (HSRA).
In November 1930, he was arrested for his involvement in the attempt to help Bhagat Singh escape from jail in 1929. He spent the next four years in jail in Lahore, Delhi, and Amritsar. During his incarceration, he started writing and became a celebrated Hindi writer. He passed away on 4 April 1987.
